Israel-Hamas ceasefire to pave way for the release of hostages

THE government of Thailand sees hope in the fate of more than 20 Thai hostages after Israel and Hamas decided to pause hostilities and swap prisoners for hostages.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said the ceasefire would be an opportunity to release Thai hostages and evacuate them from conflict zones.

Srettha added he is trying to hold talks with Qatar to allow Thais to pass through the said country during repatriation efforts.

It remains unclear whether fighting will resume after the ceasefire.

Last week, a Thai politician assigned under the country’s hostage release negotiating team assured that all 25 Thais are safe.

More than 30 Thais died in the conflict.

The United States and Israel announced that no hostages will be released before Friday. The news dashed the hopes of some desperate relatives who were hoping that some of their loved ones taken hostage by Hamas would be freed as early as Thursday.
