Italian, French energy companies to develop natural gas deposits off Cyprus

ITALIAN energy company Eni and its French partner total energies showed commitment to maximize natural gas drilled in Cyprus to boost energy supply to Europe.

The Italian energy company said the Cronos-2 appraisal well on Block 6 in Southwest Cyprus showed strong results of excellent gas capacity.

The appraisal well was drilled to assess its reservoir characteristics as part of a production test.

The well showed a net reservoir thicknesses of about 115 meters and a production capacity in excess of 150 million standard cubic feet per day.

Eni and Total Energies both hold exploration licenses in the area.

The energy minister of Cyprus said the island country could start producing its first natural gas as soon as 2026.
