‘Kumusta Pilipinas!’ UAE astronaut greets Filipinos from space

AN Emirati astronaut who became the first Arab sent on a long-haul mission to space has a special gift to Filipinos while aboard the international space station.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan al Neyadi shared with the world a stunning photo of one of the most famous land features in the Philippines – no other than a glimpse of Taal Volcano taken 400km above the earth.

Al Neyadi shared on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, a photo of the complex volcano with a caption written in Tagalog ‘Kumusta Pilipinas!’

The 42-year-old Emirati astronaut added that the photo sends a special message of understanding the natural beauty of Earth as seen from space.

Taal is the smallest active volcano in the world that captivates tourists and geologists across the globe.

Located on an island within a lake in the Province of Batangas, the Stratovolcano consists of 47 different overlapping cones and craters.

It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines and has erupted about 38 times throughout history.

Al Neyadi shared the stunning photo of Taal Volcano as he prepares to finish his six-month-long space mission and is set to return to Earth this month.
