KUWAIT has carried out an emergency evacuation of its citizens from Sudan as heavy fighting between warring factions entered its second week.
Kuwaiti citizens were evacuated at the behest of political leadership over the weekend.
They arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia ahead of their safe return to Kuwait.
On Sunday, high-ranking ministers and several officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the citizens returning on board the airline’s flight Kuwaiti Air Force coming from Jeddah International Airport.
The power struggle between Sudan’s army and the notorious paramilitary Rapid Support Forces plunged the North African country into chaos.
More than 400 people have died while thousands more were injured after more than a week of fierce fighting.
Several countries including the West intensified desperate efforts to evacuate their diplomats and citizens after fierce fighting raged in Khartoum despite a 24-hour cease-fire announced last week.
