Mexican president’s ‘real talk’ vs U.S.

Mexican president’s ‘real talk’ vs U.S.

DEFIANT and bold statements were unleashed by Mexican President Antonio Manuel Lopez Obrador, popularly known as President AMLO, witnessed by the public during his press conference in Oaxaca on Tuesday.

Mexican president calls U.S. ‘liars’

AMLO bristled over his government being accused by the U.S. State Department of Human Rights abuses, saying that his neighboring country in the north, the United States, is a liar.

This follows after the Biden administration claimed that there were credible reports of unlawful killings by Mexican authorities and torture, inhumane treatment of civilians, and forced disappearances.

Washington also chided Mexico on crime, corruption, and low rates of offenses being prosecuted by Mexican authorities.

But Lopez-Obrador rejected the findings and said,

“Well, that is not true. They are lying that it is pure politicking, with all due respect.”

“It’s just that it’s their nature, they don’t want to abandon the Monroe doctrine and before that the so-called manifest destiny, they don’t want to change, so they think they are the government of the world, they assume they are the government of the world,” said AMLO.

AMLO talks about Assange, fentanyl, Nord Stream blast

AMLO also noted the U.S.’s list of alleged wrongdoings and pointed to Washington’s failed efforts to stop the opioid crisis in their country.

In 2022 alone, there were 71,000 recorded deaths in the U.S. due to fentanyl-linked overdoses and drug poisonings.

“Why is it that a cartel or several cartels are allowed in the United States to operate freely distributing fentanyl, which does so much harm to young people, in that country?” added AMLO.

AMLO also argued that the American government was effectively keeping WikiLeaks founder and journalist Julian Assange under arrest, which, according to AMLO, is undermining human rights.

“Let’s see, human rights, hey, why don’t you release Assange, if you are talking about journalism and freedom, why do you have Assange imprisoned?” he added.

Julian Assange is currently behind bars in Belmarsh, United Kingdom; the WikiLeaks founder is battling a potential extradition to the United States where he will face prosecution for alleged espionage for the publication of thousands of documents about the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Assange says the case is politically motivated.

The Mexican president did not also hold back in mentioning the Nord Stream blast sabotage report by Pulitzer-prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh.

“If you’re talking about acts of violence, how come an award-winning journalist in the United States claims that the US government sabotaged the gas pipeline from Russia to Europe?” said AMLO.

To recall, earlier this year, Seymour Hersh published an article alleging that it was the Biden administration that blew up Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipelines.

The White House, on the other hand, called the article utterly false and total fiction.
