New Road Connects Remote Community in Baler to Rest of Aurora

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has concreted a local road to connect a far-flung community in Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora Province.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the upgraded two (2)-lane road in Sitio Ilaya now acts as an all-weather access route to the mountainous eastern side of Aurora’s capital town.

Implemented by the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO), the 959-meter long, 6.1-meter wide Sitio Ilaya Access Road made of portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) with aggregate subbase course, reinforcing steel, two (2) stations of reinforced concrete box culvert, and stone masonry.

According to Director Tolentino, Sitio Ilaya residents used to endure poor road conditions just to reach in the town center of Baler making access to certain essential social services difficult to the members of the said community.

Aside from bringing healthcare, education, and employment opportunities closer to residents of Sitio Ilaya, the newly-concreted road also allows faster transport of goods to and from the community.

“The newly improved road holds promise for boosting the economy in the area and uplifting the quality of life of its residents, demonstrating DPWH’s dedication to delivering essential infrastructure that strengthens communities,” Director Tolentino said.

Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the road concreting project was completed in the amount of P28.21 million.
