THE budget for the new Philippine Senate building in Taguig City has garnered violent reactions. Due to the value, Atty. Salvador Panelo says this is shameful.
Because so many are opposed to the idea, especially since the budget that was already P8.9-B has shot up to a whopping P23.3-B.
It can be remembered that Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero suspended the construction of the new Senate building just weeks after assuming the position of senate president.
For Senator Escudero, the budget for the new Senate building is “shocking and leaves a bad taste in the mouth”.
Meanwhile, for former Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo, Escudero did the right thing.
Currently, there are tensions in the Senate, particularly between Senator Nancy Binay—former Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Accounts—and Senator Allan Peter Cayetano—the new chairperson of the said committee.
And the investigation on the sharp increase of the new Senate building’s budget has rolled on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Atty. Panelo warned that the Filipino public will surely be infuriated especially since the new Senate building’s budget increased by almost threefold.
Currently, the first phase of the new Senate building is almost 80% finished and is expected to be completed by July 2025. In the end, Atty. Panelo advised to make other use of the building.
