Palestinian Authority Pres. Abbas rejected Biden’s phone call—Israeli media

PALESTINIAN Authority President Mahmoud Abbas refused to talk to his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden via phone call during the latter’s visit to Israel on Wednesday.

Israeli state media released this report on Friday citing a Palestinian news source in the West Bank, Kan News Agency.

The report said that the team of U.S. President Joe Biden tried to arrange a call with Abbas, however, the Palestinian Authority president rejected the request.

But both leaders spoke by phone on Saturday.

In a readout published by the White House, Biden pledged to support efforts to bring urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine.

It can be remembered that Jordan canceled a meeting with Abbas, Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Jordanian King Abdullah the second following the deadly blast at the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza.

Israelis and Palestinians are blaming each other for the blast.

Meanwhile, during Biden’s visit to Israel, the U.S. President publicly supported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that the Al-Ahli Hospital was hit by a misfired rocket launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“Before the US president left for Israel, I presented him with concrete proof that it was Islamic Jihad, and not the IDF, that had fired the missile that struck the hospital in Gaza,” according to Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel.

Reports say Abbas and Palestinian officials are fuming over U.S. backing of Israel amid the war.
