QATAREnergy secured an agreement to supply liquified natural gas to Bangladesh’s state-owned gas company Petrobangla for 15 years.
Under the deal, the Qatari company will provide Bangladesh with an annual LNG supply of 1.8 million tonnes starting from January 2026.
The precious gas is likely to come from Qatar’s multi-billion North field project.
Located in the Persian Gulf, the North field is the world’s largest natural gas field, with its ownership shared between Iran and Qatar.
The mega project is a major effort to increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per annum (Mtpa) to 126 Mtpa by 2027.
The initiative has lured many LNG buyers, including Germany, as countries look for a long-term supplier to help secure gas and protect themselves from unstable spot prices.
Before their latest LNG deal, Qatar and Bangladesh already share a 15-year LNG agreement between them which was signed in 2017.
