Road map for digitally transformed South Korea unveiled

ON Tuesday, the South Korean government pursues setting up new social orders to be in one with the digital era by unveiling a road map for the country’s digital transformation.

According to the Ministry of Science (MOS) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the digital road mapping is a follow-up to South Korean President Yoon Seuk-yool’s recent speech on the issue last month during his state visit to the United States.

According to the ministry, the government will launch the digital bill of rights this September, a guideline for the positive effects, goals, and values of digitalization.

The bill will also play a big part in countering modern-day digital problems and concerns such as personal data protection from artificial intelligence, robot taxation, and fake news.

By August, the government plans to form a public-private consultative body and open an online space with the goal to encourage public debate to favor digital transformation and share its values.

Furthermore, the ministry said the government will start off the global movement to define a new world order in the upcoming digital era on the global stage through international organizations like the Group of 20 or G20, the United Nations, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

To add, the MOS and ICT also said that the process would be regularly reviewed by the government once every year.
