Russian FM Lavrov arrives in China for talks

RUSSIAN Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in the Chinese City of Beijing for a two-day official visit.

Lavrov will spend two days in Beijing for in-depth talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on several international issues.

Among them are the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Economic ties between China and Russia grew stronger amid the wave of Western sanctions against the Kremlin since the start of its invasion of Ukraine.

China has been Russia’s largest trading partner in the past two years.

Lavrov’s visit to Beijing took place a few days after the U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen arrived in the country for high-level economic talks with Chinese officials.

Yellen called out China about its overproduction in various economic sectors such as solar energy, electric vehicles, and lithium-ion batteries which she said “distorts global prices” and hurts American companies.

Both China and Russia are members of BRICS. Designed for economic cooperation and trade, the organization is perceived as a group to counter Western hegemony in a multipolar order.
