HOPES for a ceasefire in Sudan collapsed after the Sudanese army chief rejected negotiations with the paramilitary.
Sudanese army commander Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan said there will be no negotiations, no peace, and no ceasefire until the Rapid Support Forces are defeated.
Gen. Al Burhan said the country cannot achieve real peace unless the rebels will suffer a crushing defeat.
The United Nations warned that Sudan is set to become the country with the worst hunger crisis.
The fighting between the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support forces broke out on April 15, 2023.
The civil war displaced more than 8.7 million people and almost 18 million others are facing severe levels and hunger insecurity, according to the agency.
More than 13,000 people have been killed since the war erupted last year.
Several rounds of negotiations in Saudi Arabia have been launched without success, with a new round of peace talks set to take place in Jeddah this week.
