Sweden postpones sending Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine

SWEDEN was advised by allied countries to stop sending its Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine to focus on providing Kyiv with F-16 aircraft.

Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson explained that NATO does not want to introduce two different fighter jet systems simultaneously to Ukraine.

NATO member states such as Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway have pledged to deliver dozens of U.S.-made F-16 fighters to Kyiv, with the first batch to arrive sometime this year.

Sweden was one of the countries that consistently provided humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion started in February 2022.

Sweden recently became the first country that allow Ukraine to use the weapons it has provided in its war against Russia.

The Nordic country also pledged additional military support totaling $7 billion for Ukraine last week.

Sweden’s humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine has now exceeded 100 billion Swedish krona or over $9 billion since February 2022.
