Thailand welcomes New Zealand PM for talks

THAI Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin warmly welcomed his New Zealand counterpart Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for talks.

Srettha Thavisin and Christopher Luxon discussed investment, trade, education, tourism, visa arrangements, aviation supply, transnational crime, and cybersecurity during a bilateral meeting in Bangkok.

The tense situation in the Myanmar town of Myawaddy was also discussed.

Both nations look forward to ending tariffs and quotas on all Thai and New Zealand imports due to take effect on January 1, 2025.

Both sides also agreed to upgrade their bilateral ties to a strategic partnership by 2026, which marks the 70th anniversary of their strategic ties.

Thailand also anticipates completing an ambitious free trade talks with Europe next year.
