Turkiye to partner with U.S. defense giant on F-16 fighter jets deal

U.S. Defense giant Lockheed Martin showed excitement about the opportunity to partner with Turkiye on the sale of the Block 70 series of jets.

The US government approved the sale of 40 new F-16 fighter jets to Turkiye worth 23 billion dollars as well as modernization kits for 79 existing F-16s owned by the Turkish military in January.

In February, the U.S. sent Turkiye draft letters of offer and acceptance concerning its request to buy Block 70 F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits.

The U.S. opened access for Turkiye after Ankara ratified Sweden’s accession to NATO earlier this year.

Meanwhile, American officials last month warned Turkiye from activating the Russian S-400 missiles for its planned summer offensive against militant groups at the Iraqi border.
