UNITED Arab Emirates (UAE) pledged to establish relations with Israel even as the country wages war with Gaza.
Diplomatic advisor to the UAE, Anwar Gargash, said that the UAE has taken a strategic decision to establish ties with Israel and noted that strategic decisions are long-term.
To recall, the UAE and Bahrain established diplomatic relations with Israel through the so-called Abraham accords in 2020.
Gargash pointed out that any strategic decision taken will face multiple obstacles, and the major obstacle the UAE is facing now due to its relations with Israel is something that needs to be dealt with.
Saudi Arabia was also considering establishing diplomatic ties with Israel but the process has since been halted following Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.
Meanwhile, tensions in the region reached a new high on Wednesday after two suicide bombing attacks killed 84 people and injured more than 200 civilians.
The UAE Ministry of Trade previously said that the war in Gaza will not affect the trade ties between the Gulf nation and Israel.
