UN experts urge warring parties in Sudan to stop using starvation as weapon

UNITED Nation (UN) experts warned more than 25 million civilians in Sudan require urgent humanitarian assistance as fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces entered its 15th month.

The experts accused the warring parties of using food as a weapon.

They added that foreign powers providing military support to either side are involved in war crimes, without specifying any countries involved.

They urged the warring parties to start inclusive political negotiations and immediately agree to a ceasefire.

The UN says about 14,000 people have died and 10 million more people have fled their homes across Sudan since the fighting broke out last year.

The government of Sudan which has close ties to the military has accused the UAE of helping fuel the war by providing weapons and support to its rival, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. However, the UAE denied the accusations and slammed the army for spreading false allegations.

The extent of hunger and displacement in Sudan was unprecedented and something never witnessed before, according to the UN.
