UN sought to probe Bongbong Marcos for ‘human rights violations’ and ‘crimes against humanity’

VARIOUS groups from the Philippines carried out a symbolic protest in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters in the United States.

They are calling for justice against the irregularities of President Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s administration.

“Crimes against humanity, violations of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Violations of International Humanitarian Law, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights Committed by the Philippine Government as presided by Mr. Marcos,” said Jeffrey ‘Ka Eric’ Celiz, Former NPA Cadre.

Among the groups protesting against Marcos Jr., include United Indigenous Peoples Heritage of the Philippines, Sentrong Alyansang Mamamayan, SMNI, Hakbang ng MAISUG USA, US Pinoys for Real Change, and other civic organizations.

The group condemned the excessive persecution of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), particularly its spiritual leader, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy.

Pastor Apollo is known for being one of the prominent figures who supported Bongbong Marcos during his 2022 presidential campaign.

This is especially evident after the violent June 10, 2024, operations by Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at KOJC religious compounds, where two indigenous people died from severe trauma.

Moreover, the Marcos Jr. administration has been harassing critics, including imposing suspension orders on elected officials.

“In the amount estimated to be P1.14-B or roughly $20-M commensurate to the damages mentioned above,” said Celiz.

Veteran political commentator Jay Sonza explained how important it is to discuss the abuses of the Marcos Jr. administration in the international arena.

Especially since there is no hope for justice from the current administration for Pastor Apollo.

“We filed a motion for reconsideration with the DOJ. Until now, by God’s mercy, it has been swept away by the floods from the monsoon and Carina, yet nothing has moved. Boying might just die with his eyes open, it seems there is no hope. So how can we not turn to the United Nations? We didn’t want to, but they left us with no choice,” said Jay Sonza, Political Commentator.

“This is just the beginning of the journey for justice and holding Mr. Marcos accountable,” added Celiz.
