Haze pollution exceeds safe levels in 36 Thai provinces

HAZE pollution exceeding safe levels covered 36 provinces in Thailand.

Bangkok and surrounding provinces, particularly in the northern part of the country, will be covered with smog for two days.

Thailand’s Pollution Control Department said that around 90% of the hotspots in northern Thailand are caused by human activities.

Authorities blamed the slash-and-burn activities in forests and farms for causing more than 2,500 hotspots on both sides of the border.

The ultra-fine dust particles also known as PM2.5 have remained at critical levels in the north and northeast for the past week as local officials struggle to control the blazes.

Thailand’s Pollution Control Department warned that the problem would be worse between Saturday, March 3, and Friday, March 10, with higher levels of dust reported in several provinces.
