UPANG matiyak ang seguridad at kaligtasan ng bagong pangalawang pangulo ng bansa, agad na binuhay ang Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group para magbigay ng proteksiyon kay Vice President Inday Sara Duterte at sa pamilya nito.
Ayon kay AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino, magsisilbi itong katuwang sa lahat ng oras na kailanganin ang kanilang serbisyo lalo na sa iba’t ibang mga lakad ng pangalawang pangulo at ng pamilya nito.
“The AFP saw it fitting to provide the Office of the Vice President a dedicated unit that shall ensure the safety and security of the second-highest elected official in the country,” pahayag ni Centino.
Ang nasabing yunit ay pamumunuan ni Col. Rene Giroy, PA, group commander, VPSPG.
At umaasa naman ang AFP na magiging epektibo ito sa pagtupad ng kanilang tungkulin para protektahan ang ikalawang pinakamataas na posisyon ng bansa.
“I am confident that the newly-designated VPSPG Commander and the rest of the officers and enlisted personnel entrusted to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the Vice President and her family shall perform their responsibilities to the best of their abilities,” ayon kay Centino.
Bagama’t manggagaling sa hanay ng Armed Forces ang yunit na ito, nilinaw ng AFP na hindi maaapektuhan ang kanilang pwersa na matiyak na ligtas sa anumang mga banta sa seguridad ang bansa.
