THE Siem Reap Angkor International Airport has officially opened in northwest Cambodia‘s tourist hub, raising hopes for the revitalization of the country’s popular tourism industry.
The new facility is expected to greatly increase the area’s capacity for international flights.
It is located nearly an hour from Angkor Wat, a world heritage site, and is considered the largest religious structure in the world.
The 3,600-meter runway can accommodate long-distance flights from across the globe.
The facility will contribute to the long-term development of Cambodia’s tourism, trade, and economy.
Authorities predict local people in the Cambodian province of Siem Reap to gain maximum benefits from the said project.
The airport will handle 7 million air passengers every year from 2024 and up to 12 million passengers annually from 2040.
