Around 300 OFWs ask help to return home to the Philippines—DFA

THE Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that some of our compatriots in the country of Sudan have been evacuated, but hundreds are still asking for help to be evacuated due to the uprising conflict in the said African country.

During the ‘Laging Handa Public Briefing’, DFA Migrant Workers Affairs Usec announced. Eduardo Jose de Vega estimated that there are about 700 Filipinos working in Sudan.

Where most of them are professional workers and only a few are house service workers.

De Vega also reassured that the Philippine government is now focused on the immediate evacuation of its citizens who are stuck in the middle of the conflict in Sudan.

However, the official clarified that some of them still need to fix their documents there before returning home.

Joemar, an OFW in Sudan, shared his concern for his fellow countrymen who are stuck in Khartoum, Sudan which is the center of the conflict.
