Attacker shot dead in Sydney after killing six people in a stabbing rampage

THE New South Wales Police confirmed that the assailant was shot dead by a female police inspector who happened to be nearby.

The female police officer was hailed a hero for taking down the suspect alone after a heated confrontation.

The incident happened at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in eastern Sydney on Saturday, at past three in the afternoon.

The armed man was wearing an Australian rugby league jersey and ran around the shopping center with a large knife as he committed the crime, sending shoppers fleeing for their lives.

Six people died while eight others were critically injured including a nine-month-old baby who needed to undergo surgery.

Authorities believe the attack was not related to terrorism.

The motive of the attack remains unclear while the police revealed that the attacker was someone they knew.
