‘’A little bit nasty and hostile’’ these were some of the comments stated by former U.S. President Donald Trump when asked to share his thoughts about the AUKUS agreement and the U.S. ambassador to Australia Kevin Rudd in a recent interview.
The Republican presidential nominee described Rudd as “not the brightest bulb,” and suggested he would not last long as Australia’s ambassador to the United States as long as he remains hostile towards him.
To note, the Australian envoy in the past has publicly criticized Trump as the most destructive President in history and even called him a “traitor to the West.”
Rudd, a China scholar and former chief executive at the U.S. think tank the Asia Society, has been critical of Trump regarding several international issues such as his policy towards China.
He also served as former Prime Minister and foreign minister of Australia.
Meanwhile, the Australian government was quick to defend Rudd stating he was doing “an excellent job” and the government would retain him as an ambassador if ever Trump won the presidential election in November.
