SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go, a steadfast advocate for the welfare of Filipino workers, provided assistance to disadvantaged workers in Binangonan, Rizal, on Friday, September 20.

Emphasizing the importance of supporting marginalized workers, especially those in urban poor areas, Go, in a message, reiterated his commitment to helping promote efforts to provide more employment and livelihood opportunities for those in need.

He highlighted Senate Bill No. 420, which he filed to establish a Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP). This program aims to provide short-term job opportunities to qualified individuals from low-income families facing economic hardship, displacement, or seasonal work dependency if enacted into law.

“Patuloy po tayong magkaisa para mas mapabuti pa ang kalagayan ng ating mga manggagawang mahihirap at walang trabaho. Magtulungan tayo upang makabuo ng isang lipunan na mas maginhawa at mas matatag para sa bawat Pilipino,” Go stated.

Moreover, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored Senate Bill No. 2534, which seeks to increase the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide, easing the financial burden on countless Filipino families.

The event, held at the Brgy. Bilibiran court, saw Go’s Malasakit Team working in collaboration with local organizers provide aid to affected workers by distributing snacks, masks, vitamins, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs, and offering select individuals with shoes.

In conjunction with the assistance, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted an orientation under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program for the 50 qualified beneficiaries who would be provided temporary employment.

“Sa totoo lang po, hindi niyo kailangang magpasalamat sa amin. Kami po ang dapat magpasalamat sa inyo dahil binigyan ninyo kami ng pagkakataon na makapaglingkod sa inyo. Patuloy po akong magseserbisyo para sa bawat Pilipino sa abot ng aking makakaya,” Go, adopted son of CALABARZON, shared.

As the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go encouraged residents to avail of medical assistance from the Malasakit Centers located in nearby areas, such as those located in Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV, Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital, and Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan.

These centers, which began in 2018, serve as one-stop shops for various government medical assistance programs. Go, the principal author of Republic Act No. 11463, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers, proudly noted that 166 centers are now operational nationwide, providing aid to approximately 12 million Filipinos, as per DOH reports.

“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko na ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon,” concluded Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
