CHINA’S Ministry of National Security reported on Monday that it had detained an alleged British secret agent.
According to the agency, the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) used personnel from a third country to conduct espionage against Beijing.
Reports say that the suspected spy, Huang Moumou, came from a third country, and was recruited in 2015.
Huang has traveled to China several times at the order of the MI6 to gather state secrets on their behalf and identify individuals to incite a rebellion.
The United Kingdom has yet to comment on the allegations made by the Chinese agency.
US naval officer pleads guilty to selling sensitive information to China
Meanwhile, US Navy petty officer, Wenheng Zhao was sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to accepting bribes from a Chinese intelligence officer in exchange of military secrets.
According to official reports, Zhao, who is a naturalized US citizen born in China, admitted to accepting bribes to a Chinese intelligence officer, and has received about $15,000 from them from August 2021 to May 2023.
The documents he sold included US Navy operational security, exercises, and critical infrastructure.
Aside from being imprisoned, Zhao has also been ordered to pay a $5,500 fine.
