China, Cambodia launch Joint Humanitarian Exercise in Phnom Penh

CHINA and Cambodia launched a full-process joint exercise in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.

Codenamed Peace Angel 2023, the ongoing joint humanitarian exercise in Phnom Penh is designed to improve the coordinated action and emergency response capabilities of the participating troops from China and Cambodia.

Both sides have assigned translators to address the issue of language barriers.

Troops from both sides also used flexible communication to address more specialized and complex expressions by utilizing simple signal codes, universal sign language, body language, and specific verbal commands to facilitate effective communication.

“When we make a cutting gesture, he understands it as a sign of bleeding. And when I make a rotation gesture, he knows it means bandaging with a tourniquet,” Zhao Daqing, Member, Chinese Medical Team said.

Moreover, China and Cambodia have used theoretical explanations, on-site demonstrations, and field experiences to enhance the capabilities of participating troops.

“After days of running-in, we have achieved much tacit understanding in the rescue of critically injured patients, laying a solid foundation for the upcoming exercises,” Jiang Wen, Member, Chinese Medical Team said.

Both sides mobilized more than 700 troops and used more than 1,000 sets of equipment, which consisted of a transport aircraft, medical ambulance aircraft, helicopters, disinfection drones, negative pressure ambulances, health, and epidemic prevention vehicles, as well as tent hospitals to implement humanitarian medical rescue in designated areas.

The military medical service exercise aims to improve the joint disaster medical rescue capabilities of the Chinese and Cambodian militaries by using air and ground relay methods to evacuate wounded and sick patients.
