DMW confident remains of 3 OFWs killed will be returned quickly

SMOKE inhalation caused the death of three OFWs in a residential building in Kuwait.

Migrant workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac stated that the three Filipinos who died were among the eleven Filipino workers affected by the fire.

All working for the same Kuwaiti construction company housed in the building that caught fire.

Cacdac added that he reaching out to all the families and relatives of the 11 OFWs.

Including the two in critical condition and the three deceased.

“Six are safe, one of whom was previously hospitalized but has now been discharged, so six are safe, and two are still being monitored in the intensive care unit,” according to Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac, DMW.

Cacdac also promises financial assistance for Filipino workers affected by the fire. However, he emphasized that their primary focus is on the immediate repatriation of the remains of the three OFWs.

In addition to the assistance from the Philippine Government, the Kuwaiti Government will also provide support to the affected Filipinos.

“Help will come from the company, the employers, as well as from the life insurance proceeds for the deceased,” added Cacdac.

Cacdac is confident that the remains of the three Filipinos will be returned without delay in the coming days.

“We will promptly focus on processing the necessary documentation, and I am confident that the remains of the three will be able to return home in due time,” Cacdac stressed.

“Possibly as early as the upcoming week, the remains of the three will be able to return home,” he added.

Kuwait authorities reported that the fire started at about 4:30 a.m. On Wednesday, 12 June 2024 or 9:30 am in the Philippines.

The Kuwait Interior Ministry reports that 49 people were killed in the fire, with scores injured.
