PRAYER’s poured for Dubai-based British expat Hamish Harding as search and rescue crews race against time to locate a submersible vessel that had been exploring the wreckage of the Titanic before it went missing in the Atlantic Ocean.
The trip was supposed to start in the Canadian province of Newfoundland before heading out to the Titanic wreckage site hundreds of kilometers to the east.
However, the submersible named Titan lost signal while exploring the dark depths of the Atlantic Ocean, located about 600km off the coast of Newfoundland.
The expedition reportedly costs $250,000 per person.
The US Coastguard and Navy, the Canadian Military and Coastguard, and the vessel’s parent company, OceanGate Expeditions, have joined forces in searching.
More ships and airplanes joined the rescue efforts on Tuesday.
The vessel is reportedly run by a video game controller and has no way to open the hatch from the inside.
Efforts to find the missing crew became desperate by the day as the vessel have less than two days of oxygen left before it runs out.
Dubai-based British billionaire Hamish Harding as well as the founder and CEO of OceanGate Expeditions Stockton Rush were among the five people onboard the ill-fated vessel.
The passengers reportedly signed a waiver warning them of possible injury — or even death before deciding to take part in the expensive expedition.
