GREECE reaffirmed its desire to become “India’s gateway to Europe” as the Prime Ministers of both countries met for talks in Athens.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Greek Capital for a one-day visit on Friday.
Modi visited Greece after attending the 15th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Summit in South Africa, during which he met various world leaders.
The trip marked the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Greece in 40 years since Indira Gandhi visited the country in September 1983.
Reporters were not allowed to attend the meeting.
Both countries agreed to double their bilateral trade by 2030 and explore the possibility of using Piraeus Port for Indian exports.
The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation in defense, security, infrastructure, education, and culture.
Diplomatic relations between Greece and India started in 1950 and flourished through the decades.
The historic visit took place as India seeks new alliances with countries that share its interests, such as Greece and Armenia.
