Iran capable of making nuclear weapons within two weeks—report

TITLED ‘2023 Strategy for Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction,’ the report issued by the US military revealed that Iran is not pursuing a nuclear weapons program at this time, but can produce enough fissile material for a nuclear device in less than two weeks.

In the same report, the US also blamed Iran for violating its obligations made under the Chemical Weapons Convention – an international treaty that seeks to eliminate an entire category of weapons of mass destruction or WMD.

The US military has issued the same warning multiple times this year.

In June, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that America will not let Iran possess nuclear weapons.

Tehran on the other hand previously stated that the purpose of its nuclear program is to generate power and that any other use would be considered a violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, of which it is a signatory.

Meanwhile, the United States is also known to possess three types of WMD which include nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons deployed in its land, air, and sea territories.

After months of deadlock, Iran’s Supreme Leader last week gave the negotiators the signal that Tehran is ready for face-to-face talks with the US on its nuclear program.
