NEARLY 33 years since Iraq invaded Kuwait, the government continuously adopt projects that aim to rehabilitate five natural reserves in the North and South of the country.
The government made great efforts to rehabilitate five natural reserves nationwide which include Wadi Al-Batin, Al-Khuwaisat, Umm Qadeer, Khabari Al-Awazem, and Sabah Al-Ahmad.
The initiative was part of the Kuwait environmental remediation program, one of the largest and most complex environmental remediation projects in the world.
The United Nations supported the project by donating 4.7 billion dollars.
The program consists of 10 individual projects, to fully treat rehabilitate Kuwait’s environment from the damages caused by the Iraqi invasion, which include fencing off the area, and clearing, off some mines, and other remnants of the invasion in 1990.
Members of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) praised the role of Kuwait’s agriculture authority in rehabilitating reserves and educating citizens about the importance of wildlife and preserving it.
