MYANMAR’s industry minister confirmed two Russian SU-30 fighter jets have arrived in the country at the sidelines of an international forum held in Russia.
The Southeast Asian nation signed a contract with Russia to order six SU-30 fighter jets in 2018, with negotiations finalized in September 2022.
The multi-role fighter jet can perform a 4-5 hour combat mission and is designed for the enemy’s aerial target engagement, aerial reconnaissance, combat employment, and pilot training.
Myanmar’s industry minister announced the delivery of the fighter jets on the sidelines of the 2023 Eastern Economic Forum being held in Russia’s Far East city of Vladivostok.
The annual forum started on September 10 and ends on September 13.
As ties grew between the two nations, the United States has warned that Moscow’s support for Myanmar’s military rulers is unacceptable and destabilizing.
Myanmar and Russia will also sign a number of bilateral agreements at the East Economic Forum, including bilateral cooperation on tourism.
