AS the conflict between Russia and Ukraine nears its second year, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) chiefs of defense gathered in Brussels for a two-day meeting earlier this week.
Top commanders announced that NATO will hold its largest military exercise since the Cold War known as Steadfast Defender.
The massive military exercise will run from February to June and will be participated by about 90,000 troops.
The drills will serve as a testing ground for NATO’s new defense plans designed to counter Russia.
The United Kingdom alone will dispatch 20,000 troops to the military exercise.
Steadfast Defender was announced nearly a year after Sweden launched its largest military drill in 25 years known as exercise Aurora.
More than 26,000 soldiers from 14 countries joined the exercise held in April of last year.
Sweden, an aspiring NATO member, was invited to the meeting of top NATO commanders in Brussels held on the 18th and 19th of January.
