PM confirms 12 Australians safe after deadly plane collision in Japan

The 12 Australians were among the 379 people who escaped and survived a deadly plane collision between a large passenger plane and one other smaller aircraft that burst into flames and killed five people earlier this week.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that all 12 Australians on the Japan Airlines flight were safe and offered his sympathies towards the government of Japan.

The horrifying runway disaster at Tokyo’s Haneda airport took place after a 7.6 magnitude earthquake rocked Japan on New Year’s Day which killed dozens on the spot and more deaths were reported days after.

Albanese invited any Australians in need of emergency consular assistance should contact the Australian government’s 24-hour consular emergency.

The passenger plane was attempting to land normally when it collided with the Coast Guard aircraft on the runway.

Separate investigations have been launched by transport officials and police.
