NANGAKO si Indonesian President Joko Widodo kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. na muling bubusisiin ang kaso ni Mary Jane Veloso.
”Yes, with the decision of the Indonesian government to look into the case filed by Mary Jane Veloso in the Philippines,” saad ni Secretary Cheloy Garafil, PCO.
Ito ang kinumpirma ni Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil nitong Huwebes nang tanungin kung nakakuha ng commitment si Pangulong Marcos mula sa Indonesian President hinggil sa nasabing usapin.
Sa katunayan, ani Garafil, hinihintay ng gobyerno ng Indonesia ang desisyon ng korte ng Pilipinas sa kasong isinampa ni Veloso laban sa kaniyang recruiter.
”In fact, the Indonesian government is waiting for the decision of the Philippine court on the case she filed,” dagdag ni Garafil.
Una nang inihayag ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na tatalakayin ang kaso ni Veloso sa pulong ng Philippine officials at kanilang Indonesian counterparts.
Noong 2010, hinatulang guilty si Veloso sa drug trafficking at pinatawan ng death penalty.
Umaasa si Pangulong Marcos na uusad ang kaso ni Veloso at gagawaran ito ng clemency.
Nauna na ring sinabi ng PCO na muling babanggitin ni Pangulong Marcos sa bilateral meeting nila ni Indonesian President Widodo ang tungkol sa kaso ni Veloso.

Samantala, lampas alas-dose ng hapon nitong Huwebes, Enero 11 nang umalis ang presidential plane ni President Joko Widodo sa Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.
Ito ay matapos ang kaniyang matagumpay na 3-day official visit sa Pilipinas.
Sa kaniyang pagbisita, nagsagawa ng bilateral meeting si Pangulong Widodo kay Pangulong Marcos sa layuning palakasin ang bilateral ties sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.
Tinalakay ng dalawang lider ang pagpapahusay ng pagtutulungan sa iba’t ibang larangan kabilang ang political, security, at economic partnership.
“I am pleased to inform you of the results of a successful visit of the President of Indonesia, President Joko Widodo here to Manila,” ayon sa Pangulo.
“We had a cordial and productive discussion on Philippine-Indonesia bilateral cooperation, taking the opportunity to reaffirm our two countries’ strong bilateral relations,” aniya.
Sa layuning palakasin ang kooperasyon sa seguridad ng enerhiya, nasaksihan ng dalawang lider ang presentasyon ng nilagdaang Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Field of Energy.
Napag-usapan din ng dalawang pinuno ang mga isyu sa South China Sea maging ang pagpapalakas ng border controls.
Muling pinagtibay ng Pilipinas at Indonesia ang pangako sa ‘universality’ ng United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) — bilang mga founding member ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Bahagi rin ng official visit ni Widodo ang pagbisita sa pabrika ng producer ng instant coffee na Kopiko Philippines Corporation (KPC) sa Calamba, Laguna.
Ang Kopiko ay isang brand na pag-aari ng Indonesian food and beverage company na Mayora.
“In the field of economy, in order to enhance trade we have agreed to continue to open market access and Indonesia seeks the Philippine’s support related to special safeguard measures on Indonesian coffee products,” pahayag ni Pres. Joko Widodo, Republic of Indonesia.
Bukod dito, bumisita rin si Widodo sa seaweed processing industry, sa W Hydrocolloids, Inc. sa Carmona Plant sa Cavite.
Kaugnay rito, umaasa ang Indonesian President na lalakas ang seaweed processing ng kaniyang bansa na kalaunan ay maaaring i-export sa ilang bansa gaya ng Pilipinas.
Kasama sa departure ceremony ni President Widodo sa Villamor Air Base ay sina Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Gina Jamoralin, at Pasay City Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano.
