Protesters rally in Argentina against President-elect Javier Milei ahead of inauguration

THE Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and other social movements took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Thursday to protest against Argentine President-elect Javier Milei ahead of his inauguration on December 10 of this year.

Protesters marched with banners, including messages like ‘They shall not pass!’ and ‘30,000 detained, disappeared,’ in Argentina‘s capital.

Demonstrators voiced their opposition to Milei and his vice president-elect Victoria Villarruel, who have challenged the long-standing consensus over the dictatorship and questioned the number of victims during their campaign.

Argentina’s liberal president-elect Milei has downplayed the 1976-1983 military dictatorship that ruled the country.

Milei and his Vice President-elect Victoria Villarruel have made challenging the decades-long consensus over the dictatorship and questioning the number of victims a major part of their campaign.

Argentina’s controversial new leader, Javier Milei, is set to be inaugurated on Sunday.

Throughout his presidential campaign, the TV celebrity-turned-politician pledged to abolish the central bank, cut public spending, and dollarize the economy to combat Argentina’s soaring inflation and poverty rate.
