ARGENTINA was among the six countries invited in August of this year to join the bloc made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The Latin American country was set to join in January 1 of this year.

However, in a drastic shift of foreign policy under its new president, Javier Milei,

Argentina will not be joining the bloc next year as scheduled.

Diana Mondino, who Milei picked as foreign minister once Milei is sworn into presidential office, posted on X, saying quote-unquote we will not join the BRICS.

Mondino also shared doubts about the value of BRICS, despite Brazil and China- pioneering BRICS members– are Argentina’s top commercial partners.

To recall, Milei harshly criticized China during his presidential campaign, but has toned down his words since winning the November 19 election.

Milei also criticized the leftist government of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Milei, a libertarian, said he admires former President Donald Trump, and that if he were to win, his allies would be the U.S. and Israel.

Milei will be worn into the argentine presidential office on December 10.
