RUSSIA will soon deploy Sarmat Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles and the first of its launchers will be put on combat duty soon.
This was said by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with military academy graduates in Moscow, as he aims to strengthen his country’s armed forces.
The first launchers of the Sarmat Complex with a new heavy missile will take up combat duty.
The Sarmat missile is an intercontinental ballistic missile designed for long-range nuclear strikes, and its new generation can carry 10 or more nuclear warheads.
Putin said that Russia’s military will evolve based on what he describes as “priceless experience” provided by the so-called special military operation in Ukraine, and also the modern challenges that Russia is facing.
The Russian president also confirmed that his country’s nuclear triad— the capability to strike from land, sea, or air— remains a key guarantee of Russian military security and global stability.
And aside from the Sarmat missiles, Russian troops will also continue to receive hypersonic Avangard gliders.
The Russian navy will be further equipped with anti-ship zircon missiles, as well as air-launched Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
But Putin explained that the modernization will not be limited to nuclear weapons only and that air defense systems, heavy armor, and drone production will all be upgraded.
His speech came a day after Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia is prepared for a conflict with NATO if it decides to attack the country.
