Singapore offers $10,000 compensation for victims of extreme turbulence incident

PASSENGERS who sustained minor injuries due to massive turbulence that hit Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 a few weeks ago were entitled to $10,000 compensation.

Offers of compensation have been sent to passengers onboard the affected flight, according to the airline.

Extreme turbulence hit the aircraft while flying 37,000 feet up mid-air from London to Singapore, forcing the flight to get diverted to Bangkok.

The severe turbulence caused the plane to drop more than 6,000 feet (1800m) in three minutes.

Of the 211 passengers and 18 crew onboard, 104 people were injured, with most of them to have received treatment in Thailand.

At least 12 passengers remain hospitalized in Bangkok as of Monday.

Therapists in Singapore said that patients seeking treatment to overcome their fear of flying have increased after the incident.

The airline said that those who sustained serious injuries could be entitled to a larger payment.
