THAI Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin‘s recent visit to Cambodia affirmed the decades-long friendship between the neighboring Southeast Asian nations.
The visit marks Srettha’s first diplomatic trip abroad since he was elected as the new prime minister of Thailand in August.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Srettha which was followed by a discussion of the highest-profile problems confronting the region.
Both leaders remotely attended the inauguration of a new center for victims of trafficking in Cambodia’s border town of Poipet, with Thailand to have contributed more than $2.3 million for the said initiative.
The center is the first of its kind in Cambodia and is set to provide rehabilitation services for trafficking victims, including mental health counseling and job skills training.
Srettha also paid a courtesy call to 71-year-old Hun Sen, the former prime minister of Cambodia during his visit.
Thailand and Cambodia have sustained more than seven decades of strong diplomatic ties, with bilateral trade valued at more than 300 billion baht in 2022.
