Thailand joins global call for Hamas to release hostages in Gaza

AT least eighteen countries, including Thailand, asked Hamas to set free the remaining hostages who were captured since the war in Gaza erupted on October 7, 2023.

All eighteen countries have citizens held hostage in Gaza. They have signed a statement to strengthen their call for Hamas to release the hostages.

Other signatories include Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Thailand made an appeal for Hamas to release the sick, elderly, and wounded.

Eight Thais are still held captive by Hamas more than six months since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in October last year.

In November of last year, Thai officials held direct talks with Hamas in Iran to secure the release of 22 Thai nationals held hostage in Gaza. Seventeen Thai workers were released from captivity by the end of November while 32 Thai nationals died from the conflict.

The international community made a global outcry, following months of failed negotiations between Israel and Hamas to agree on a ceasefire, which could lead to the exchange of prisoners and the release of hostages.
