Thailand shows interest to purchase Indo-Russian supersonic missile

BRAHMOS, a medium-range supersonic cruise missile made through the joint partnership of Russia and India, has gained the attention of several Asian countries including Thailand.

The highly versatile weapon is capable of carrying warheads weighing between 200 to 300 kilograms and can be launched from a ship, aircraft, submarine, or land.

It is said to be the fastest cruise missile owned by the Indian military and serves all of its three branches.

Thailand’s interest in acquiring BrahMos increased after the Philippines signed a contract worth P18.9-B last year to buy the state-of-the-art weapon.

Besides Thailand and the Philippines, other countries interested in buying BrahMos include South Korea, Greece, and Singapore.

Talks to acquire the supersonic cruise missile have been going on for years while negotiations between Thai and Indian representatives continue.
