A Russian tourist who ran out of money while visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was able to fly back home after Emirati officials helped him back on his feet.
Police officers from Sharjah approached the tourist after they saw him sitting on the grass under a bridge leading to the airport.
According to the patrol officers, the foreigner was in a sorry state and looked exhausted when they first saw him and decided to take him to the nearest police station.
They later found out that the Russian had come to the UAE in April to cycle around the Emirates when he was stranded after running out of money.
The tourist said he did not speak the English language well which made him difficult to ask for help and relay his troubles to other people.
Upon hearing his plight, the Sharjah Police immediately booked a hotel room and arranged a travel ticket for him, while a team was also assigned to escort him to the Sharjah Airport for his safe return.
The rescued tourist thanked the Emirati officers for their assistance and said he was very impressed with the UAE’s humanitarian attitude.
