THE United Arab Emirates will spend $544 million to repair the homes of Emirati families affected by the heavy rain and widespread flooding last week.
The severe weather disrupted flights, caused traffic jams, closed schools, as well as damaged schools and businesses.
Rain is unusual in the UAE, with its drainage infrastructure not designed for heavy rains and floods.
6.26 inches of rain, equivalent to two years’ worth of rainfall, fell in just 24 hours, according to the Dubai Meteorological Office.
Widespread flooding killed four in the UAE and 19 in neighboring Oman.
