SEVERAL United States-based analysts shared their insights on the efforts done by Washington to increase its military presence in the region and how it could escalate tensions between the US and Iran.
The Pentagon previously announced to deploy thousands of US troops in the Gulf Region to help protect shipping lanes being seized by Iran including those passing by in the Strait of Hormuz.
As of Sunday, more than 3,000 US sailors and marines have arrived in the Red Sea aboard two warships.
In response to the recent actions by the US, an angry Iran vowed to equip its Revolutionary Guard Navy with drones and missiles.
Tehran has also accused Washington of defending smuggling activity in the Gulf Region.
A senior fellow at the Center for International Policy (CIP) think tank based in Washington, DC warned the possibility of mutual escalation between the US and Iran will be very dangerous.
Meanwhile, the policy director at the National Iranian American Council, also based in Washington, said that increasing US military presence in the Gulf may be viewed by Tehran as a way for Washington to seize Iranian tankers.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also criticized the presence of the US military in the Middle East as an approach that undermines regional stability and security.
