EARLIER this week, Nations World Food Program (WFP) announced to stop the agency’s food aid program in Northern Yemen after unsuccessful talks with the Houthi militants.
The devastating civil war in Yemen has been going on since 2014, with the Houthi militants and the internationally recognized Yemeni government fighting with each other.
On Tuesday, the WFP announced the temporary suspension of its food aid in areas under the control of the Houthis in Northern Yemen after talks with the rebel group collapsed.
Limited funding also affected the UN agency’s operations in the war-torn country.
At present, Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in modern history.
More than 4.5-M people have been internally displaced, about 21.6-M are in dire need of humanitarian assistance, and more than 80% of the population now live below the poverty line in Yemen, according to the United Nations.
