100,000 evacuated due to devastating floods in Pakistan

AROUND 100,000 individuals in several villages have been forced to evacuate in Pakistan’s Punjab province due to destructive floods caused by the overflowing Sutlej River.

Emergency services are working relentlessly to ensure the safety of residents and livestock, relocating them to higher ground as floods devastate villages and cropland.

Farooq Ahmad, spokesperson for Punjab emergency services said they relocated the evacuees to safer areas.

Monsoon rains forecasted in the coming days pose a further threat to exacerbating the flooding, as warned by the Punjab Disaster Management Agency.

Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab’s government head, claimed that the excess water’s impact on the Sutlej River’s overflow into Pakistan.

Officials from India have yet to comment on the matter.

This disaster exposes the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather, just like the aftermath of the 2022 floods that affected 33 million and submerged a third of Pakistan.
