KUWAIT issued a new memorandum that prohibits the import of all types of bird meat from Spain and almost half of the US states as global experts look for ways to address the ongoing avian influenza outbreak.
Under the latest measure, the import of all kinds of fresh, chilled, frozen, and processed bird meat, their derivatives, and products, including table eggs from Spain and 22 states of America are banned unless they have undergone heat treatment at 70 degrees Celsius.
The directive was for a bird-flu outbreak that erupted at a Spanish mink farm in October which killed thousands of the animals before the rest were culled after the bird flu virus mutated and spread among the minks.
Meanwhile, another memorandum ordered lifting the ban on importing all kinds of fresh, chilled, frozen, and processed poultry meat, their derivatives and products, and table eggs from 16 American states and Ireland.
The ban was lifted after the highly pathogenic bird flu outbreak ended in these places.
Global experts race to look for a solution to prevent the bird flu outbreak from becoming the next pandemic after cases of the infection have been recorded in animals and humans.
