THE government of South Australia, under the leadership of Premier Peter Malinauskas, signed a deal with the largest defense contractor in Europe.
British Defense Giant BAE Systems is not only the largest defense contractor in Europe but also one of the largest worldwide.
The defense company based in London signed a memorandum of understanding with South Australia to develop thousands of skilled jobs required for major shipbuilding projects.
These projects include the construction of nuclear-powered submarines under the AUKUS security deal.
BAE Systems and the South Australian government have pledged to develop the defense industry workforce in the state as the demand for skilled workers increases.
BAE Systems Australia also supports several other defense industry projects in the state such as the F-35 joint strike fighter program and on-board support for the navy’s submarines.
The announcement comes after the federal government promised to create about 20,000 direct jobs over the next 30 years through the AUKUS deal.
